Little River Monitor
The community was startled Tuesday night with the intelligence of the sad death of Hattie Jane, daughter of W. M. and Emma V. Clarke, residing east of town. The accident which caused her death occurred about noon. An old horse supposed to be perfectly docile was grazing near the house, and was wanted to do some little chore, and the little girl was sent to drive him up. The horse in some way struck the child and threw her down and trampled on her with one or both of its hind feet. She lingered until in the evening when she passed away. This sudden stroke, coming as it did so unexpectedly, is a great affliction to the parents. The funeral was preached at the Congregational church by Rev. Gilchrist at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, May 21. The age of the child was 7 years, 10 months and 29 days. The parents have the earnest and heartfelt sympathy of all in their great bereavement.
