Born Sept. 29, 2021, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late James C. and Lillian E. (Hoffman) Dickson. He was united in marriage to the former Edith Marie Whittaker Jan 15, 1949, at the home of the bride's brother, John Whittaker and his wife, in Huntingdon , R.R., by the Rev. J Powell. Mrs. Dickson preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1996.
Mr Dickson is survived by two sisters, Dorothy (Dickson) Snyder, Rising Sun, Md; and Margaret (Dickson) Dean, Pennsylvania Furnace; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Harry and George Dickson and Lois (Dickson) Hartman.
Mr. Dickson was a member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, where he previously served as a trustee.
He was a member of the local Teamsters Union.
Mr. Dickson attended Huntingdon public schools.
At the age of 16, he became employed at the Walter Whittaker Farm in Hartslog Valley. Following this, he drove truck as a private contractor, which led to his employment with New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc., McConnellstown Plant, beginning May 5, 1952. He retired from New Enterprise after 31 years Aug. 6, 1983, where he was primarily a cement truck driver. Following his retirement from New Enterprise, he was a private contractor working for his good friend, Paul Hickes, and also performed various good will services for his neighbors and friends.
A resident of Hartslog Valley since 1968, Mr. Dickson enjoyed his frequent trips to Belleville where he befriended many Amish families and assisted them by providing transport of their produce and merchandise to market. He enjoyed their fresh pies, canned goods and homemade bread. He also enjoyed patronizing many of the local restaurants in the Huntingdon area. Through the years he had many Boston Terriers as companions, all named "Penny." His family and friends, whom he considered his greatest assets in life, will remember him as a kind-hearted man, always willing to help in their time of need.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, 508 Mifflin St., Huntingdon with the Rev. Harold G. Williams Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Friday, March 5, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon. Friends will also be received at the church immediately following Saturday's service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Dickson to the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, 508 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, PA 16652; Calvary Christian Academy, 300 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon, PA 16652; or to the Huntingdon County Humane Society, 11371 Schoolhouse Hollow Road, Huntingdon, PA 16652.
