King of the English from 978 to 1013 and again from 1014 until his death in 1016.
Æthelred was buried in Old St Paul's Cathedral, London. The tomb was in the quire at Old St Paul's Cathedral. The tomb was destroyed along with the cathedral in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
A modern monument in the crypt of the current cathedral lists his tomb as one of the important graves lost.
Some of his issue were:
• Edmund II, King of the English
• Edward the Confessor, King of the English
• Alfred Ætheling
• Godgifu, Countess of the Vexin and Boulogne
