John A. Sheppard , 77, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away January 8, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on March 11, 1946 in Parkersburg, a son of the late Albert Blaine and Helen Deloris Wigal Sheppard.

John was a 1946 graduate of Parkersburg High School and was in the Big Red Band. He had worked for Wharton Cadillac Olds and then opened Sheppard's Auto Service, operating that business for forty-five years before retiring. He enjoyed helping his customers and was well regarded for hard work and integrity. John enjoyed stock car racing, having owned a stock car that promoted his auto repair service.

John's faith guided his life and how he lived. He was a member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ where he had served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. John was active with the West Virginia Right to Life for over thirty years. He continually supported Mulberry International, an organization supporting orphans around the world.

John is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Helen Lea Taggart Sheppard, daughter Angela Dawn Mendoza (Melvin), son William Blaire Sheppard (Angela), four granddaughters Alexandria Mendoza DeBrular (Zack), Allison Mendoza (Justin Sams), Ariel Sheppard, Annabelle Sheppard, sister Judith Hall (Richard) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Rebecca Sheppard Lynch.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Jamie Sprague and Melvin Mendoza officiating.

Visitation will be 5 - 8 on Friday and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery will be at the family's convenience.
