Celebration of life for Fannie Elizabeth Strother will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2024, in the White Oaks Memorial Chapel with Reverend Rodney Monk, and Reverend L.E Robertson officiating. Committal service will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Fannie, 80, of Oakdale, entered eternal life on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in the Rapides Regional Medical Center. She was born January 3, 1944, in Oakdale to the union of Homer Strother and Thelma Ware Strother. Fannie was a member of the First Baptist Church – Oakdale and served for a period as the church secretary. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. To know her was to love her.
Her first love was basketball, where she played for Oberlin and Plainview. After graduating from Oberlin High School in 1961, she moved to Houston, Texas, playing basketball and working as a telephone operator. Fannie was drafted to play basketball for the Arkansas Redheads, was inducted into the Plainview Hall of Fame. When she met the second love of her life and married Charles Ervin Strother.
Fannie worked and was co-owner of Corky and Steamy's Family Restaurant. She also worked at Video City, the Time Shop, Allen Council on Aging, a cook at Elsie's Stop n Shop, and White Oaks Funeral Home are just a few businesses that she worked for. Before retiring, she was a school bus driver for 32 years for Allen Parish School Board. She was known around Oakdale to be a helpful and caring individual. She was a selfless and giving person who always put the needs of others ahead of herself!
Her parents, Homer, and Thelma Strother; husband, Charles Ervin Strother; one son, Timothy James Strother; three brothers, Jerry Lee Strother, Harold Strother, and Doug Strother; preceded her in death.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Gregory A. Strother and wife Kimberly of Oakdale; four grandchildren, Courtney Strother and special friend Chris Jackson, Steven T. Strother and wife Holly, Hannah Durio and husband Daniel, and Katey Strother, and fiancé Tyler Strother all of Oakdale; five great grandchildren; Patrick "PJ" Richard, Sophie Richard, Nova Richard, Lillian "Lily" Strother, and Daxx Strother; one brother, Cleveland Homer Strother of Fairview; two sister-in-laws, Sarah Strother of Pineville and Janet Strother of Pineville; special friend, Henry Waters of Oakdale; along with a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers to serve will be Steven Strother, Daniel Durio, Tyler Strother, Ty Perry, Darrell Strother and Harold Poole.
Visitation will be held in the White Oaks Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.
