Services for George Douglas "Coach" Strother will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2009, in the Trinity Baptist Church, Pineville, with the Reverends Darryl Hoychick and Jerry Odom officiating.

Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery, under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Alexandria.

"Coach" Strother, 64, of Pineville, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, in his residence. He was born on June 20, 1945, in Oakdale. He graduated from Oberlin High School in 1963, and received his Masters + 30 from Northwestern State University. Doug was a teacher/ coach for 32 years. He had such an unlimited capacity of love for children and teaching to the extent that he continued to teach four years after an automobile accident in 2001, which rendered him a quadriplegic. Doug was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.

His parents, Homer and Thelma (Ware) Strother; one brother, Harold Ray Strother; nieces, Harriet Ann Strother and Janet Strother and nephew, Timothy Strother precedes him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sara Vercher Strother; two sons, Bob Strother and wife, Dawn (grandchildren, Krystle, Katelyn, and Kali); David Strother and wife, Melissa (grandchildren, D. J. and Chelsie); and daughter, Elizabeth (Strother) Wolf, and husband Chris (grandson, Stone); brother, Cleveland Strother of Jersey Village, Texas; sister, Fannie Elizabeth Strother of Oakdale and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Pallbearers will be D. J. Strother, Darryl Strother, Greg Strother, Anthony Strother, Cooper Floyd, Stone Wolf, Ben Balwin, Chris Wolf, Earl Ware and Steven Strother.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Vercher, Sam Roland, Robert Boone and all of his cousins that he loved so much.

Friends may call today from 8 a.m. until time of service in the church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Hong Liu along with his nurses, Gilda and Sheri, the staff of Cabrini and Dubuis Hospitals, Rev. Darryl Hoychick, members of Trinity Baptist Church, White Oaks Funeral Home, and all of our friends and family for their care, love and prayers.
