MARY RAMELLA
Ramella, 87, Red Cross volunteer, BVM member
Mrs. Mary Ramella, 87, of 1206 Actna Drive Ext., formerly of 206 Wampum Ave., died at 11 a.m.
yesterday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Mary Evans Extended Care Center at Ellwood City Hospital following an illness of five months. She was born April 14, 1912, in Ellwood City to the late Luigi and Mary Grace Innocent Piscitelli and had been married more than 67 years, since Jan. 5, 1932, to Rudolph Ramella who survives. Mrs. Ramella had been a Red Cross blood bank volunteer and received a 25-year gold pin. She had also been a sewer for the Red Cross during World War II and did volunteer work at Ellwood City Hospital for many years. She had worked at Schweiger's Straw's Baker, Rose's Bakery and in the kitchen at Ellwood City Hospital. A lifetime area resident, Mrs. Ramella was a member of Purification BVM Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers. She was a former member of the Opti-Mrs. Club. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and playing cards. Her parents came to this area in the early 1890s and her father was one of the founders, in 1904, of Hazel Dell Borough which became the Fourth Ward of Ellwood City in 1914. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Claudina in infancy; six brothers, Angelo "Andy", Domenic "Thomas", Joseph, Eliote, John and Frank Piscitelli; and four sisters, Mrs. Martha Funari, Mrs. Angeline Regna, Mrs. Elvera Farincelli and Mrs. Madeline Fusco. The family will received friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Samuel Teolis Funeral home, 309 Spring Ave. Mass of
Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in BVM church. The Rev. Mark L. Thomas, parochial vicar, will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Peter's Mausoleum at St. Agatha Cemetery. Members of the Christian Mothers of BVM church are requested to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Thursday to form an
honor guard.
