The last rites for Mrs. Bertha Beckman, affectionately known as "Grandma" Beckman, who answered the call to a higher life Monday, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Lutheran church with the Rev. J. E. Nelson officiating. Mrs. Rex B. Cartwright sang two hymns "I am a Pilgrim" and "Under His Wings" The pallbearers were Alfred Lunder, Al Hansen, Ed Bergeson, Albert Fost, Henry Stenerson and Albert Gustafson. Interment was made in Bonnievale Cemetery. - Bertha Beckman, better known as Grandma Beckman, was born August 28, 1846 near Bergen, Norway. She came to American in the year 1870 and was married to Carl Beckman in 1874 in Minnesota. They moved to Baker in the year 1909 where her husband died in 1914. Since that time she has lived with her son Henry and family who have faithfully cared for her. She was always well and very active until last January when she suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. She passed away peacefully last Monday morning at the age of 89 years, nine months and 24 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church when a child and was a charter member of the American Lutheran church of Baker. She lived a life of faith and her strong faith in her Savior sustained her unto the end. During her last sickness she longed to go home to be with Jesus and she often asked, "Is Jesus coming to take me now?". Jesus did come and take her last Monday and she is now at rest with Him. She leaves to mourn her passing six children and their families: Henry and Aleck of Baker, John of Miles City, Mrs. L.B. Ness of Los Angeles, CA. Mrs. E.T. Ness of Kila. MT and Mrs. George Fogle of Judith Gap, MT; she also leaves 28 grandchildren besides a host of friends. May God bless her memory to us all.
