Dr W E Baylor, the well known physician, died at his home at Wardell, this county, on Wednesday morning, at 4 o'clock. The funeral and burial will take place today in the family cemetery at Wardell, where rest the remains of his people who preceded him. Dr Baylor was a highly honored and successful physician in this county for about 35 years. He suffered a long illness. Almost totally paralyzed, speechless and helpless for months, his death was not unexpected. He was 59 years old.

Dr William Edwin Baylor was the son of John G and Julia Brown Baylor, whose home was at Wardell. He died in the house in which he was born.

Dr Baylor was married three times, his first wife, Miss Matilda Ward, daughter of the late Capt A T Ward of Tazewell, and sister, therefore to the Ward brothers, well known citizens of this county. There were no children by the first marriage, her death occurring about one year after marriage.

The second wife was Miss Eva Thompson, daughter of the late Jas W Thompson, sister to Mr S J Thompson, of the Cove. To this marriage was born five children, viz: Dr John Baylor, now completing a course at Johns Hopkins; Samuel, a student at Washington and Lee; Flora and Nell, and James Baylor.

The last wife was Miss Annie Doughty, of Accomac county, who survives.

He leaves a brother, J E Baylor, at Graham, and one sister, Mrs W A Ward, of Amorillo, Texas. Mrs Ward, owing to the great distance, will not be able to attend the funeral of her brother.

Dr Baylor was a genial, intelligent gentleman. He made a lasting impression upon even strangers whom he chanced to meet, and his acquaintances who knew him best were attached to him by the strongest ties of friendship. As a physician he brought to his practice a well rounded well balanced and trained mind. His medical education was obtained at Baltimore, where he graduated with honors, and his natural gifts, supplemented by thorough training and a genial manner, made him popular as a physician. His friends deplore his death. He will be sadly missed. The country and society generally, suffer a serious loss in his untimely death.
