Obituary: Oscar Emil Ness, 93 years old of Baker passed a
away at his home Wednesday morning, April 5, 1978. He was born January 31, 1885 at Lake Preston, South Dakota, the son of Olaf and Jorgine Ness. He grew up and attended schools at Lake Preston. For two years he homesteaded in Canada, then in 1908 he homesteaded seven miles northwest of Baker. He was united in marriage to Mabel Draper April 1, 1914.
They farmed six miles west of Baker until 1934 when they moved to Baker and Oscar did carpentry work. They moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1942, where he also worked as a carpenter. They returned to Baker in 1974 and on April 1st Mr. and Mrs. Ness celebrated 64 years of marriage. Survivors are his wife Mabel of Baker and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, from the Baker Community Church with Rev. Robert Boutwell officiating. Mrs. Anna Lushbough was organist and Mrs. Ruth Townsend sang "My God and I" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were J.R. Corbitt, L. Price, Clarence Schell, Walter Flint, Norman Stenerson and Roy Bettenhausen. Interment was in Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker.
