Garnice Knight Ealy, of Charlotte, died Feb. 12, 1996, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Mrs. Ealy was born in Madison, NC on Aug. 26, 1925 and lived in Leaksville during her grade and high school years. She was a star basketball player at Leaksville High School and president of the school literary club. She was a member of the Leaksville Moravian Church. During her young life, she was honored by Mrs. Annie Penn of Chinquapenn with the presentation of an award for being the first senior Girls Scout in Rockingham County, NC. She also attended Peabody College in Baltimore, MD.

Mrs. Ealy's parents were Henry Clarence Knight and Irene Manuel Knight; her father's family were members of the Golden Horseshoe Circle established by Governor Spottswood of Colonial Williamsburg, VA. In 1961, Mrs. Ealy moved with her family to Charlotte where she established a successful interior design business and real estate investment firm.

She was active in numerous civic affairs in Charlotte including membership in the Charlotte Symphony Guild and the Charlotte Opera Guild. She was also a former treasurer of the Ruth Fisher Bible Class at Myers Park Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Ealy; and two sons, Dr. George Thomas Ealy and William Carl Ealy of Charlotte.

Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 15th at the Leaksville Moravian Church, Eden (formerly Leaksville), NC with The Reverends Wallace Elliot and John Christman presiding. Interment will be at the Overlook Cemetery in Eden .
