Name: Andy Ellis
Death: 1954 - Glades, Florida

According to his declaration for Naturalization, Andy was born 26 October 1880 in "Kanabec" Canada; he gave his last place of residence in Canada as Modoc, Ontario, but on at least one census he claimed to be born in Quebec. His nephew (my grandfather) who met him in Minnesota prior to WWI recalled him as a "French-Canadian moonshiner." On his World War I Draft registration card Andy gives his birth as 26 September 1878. He was aged 28 on the 1910 census, aged 42 on the 1920 census, aged 54 on the 1930, aged 63 on the 1940, and aged 69 on the 1945 Florida State Census.

Andy farmed in Beltrami Co., Minnesota with his wife Ellen Weaver Ellis and his two nieces, Bessie and Stella Miller, whom he and Ellen adopted. They lost the farm in the Depression and moved to Funkley, Minnesota. Sometime after Ellen's death Andy moved to Florida, where he worked as a fisherman. (Re: Zella)
