Ellen ran away from home when quite young, and eventually ended up in Minnesota, where she married a Canadian, Andrew Ellis, who was about 15-20 years younger than she (they both fudged their ages frequently on public documents). Ellen had a previous marriage, but the name of her former husband has never been found. She and Andy farmed in Blackduck, Beltrami Co. for many years. They had no children of their own, but adopted Andy's two young nieces. They lost the farm during the depression, and ended up living in their truck, near Funkley, Minnesota. Ellen began suffering from mental problems, wandering away, and eventually was committed to Fergus Falls State Hospital, where she died. Andy later moved to Florida and died there.
