Robert "Bob" Lloyd Ancel, age 92, of Dewitt, Michigan was born May 21, 1931 to William and Manila Ancel and passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023.
Bob graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1942. He was an outstanding basketball player and was offered scholarships from colleges. Bob was proud to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 where he received a Purple Heart honor. Following the military, he worked for the State of Michigan Highway Department. He then worked for the Clinton County Road Commission, retiring after 15 years and later was appointed as a commissioner. Bob was a social man and very involved in the community. He was a member of numerous associations, volunteered at the Lansing Seventh-Day Adventist Community Service Center, and was chairman of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church School Board and the Building Committee. He was a DeWitt Township trustee, Clinton County Commissioner and was a member of the DeWitt Sewer Authority.
Bob loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed snowmobiling, deer and pheasant hunting, and spending time with his family at their cottage on Higgins Lake for over 55 years. Amidst all the activities in his life, he always found the time to root for the Detroit Tigers or MSU Spartans. Bob had a quick wit and sense of humor and will be deeply missed and loved by all who knew him.
Bob was the beloved husband of Penny Ancel of 72 years; loving father of Jeffrey (Michelle) Ancel and
Cheri (Steve) Arwood; cherished grandfather of Brian, Matthew, Rachael and Alysa; great grandfather of Madison, Carter, Killian, Allie and Emily; and was the last surviving of his 15 siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to nurse Molly Dittirch at MSVNA Hospice Home Care and to Bob's dear friend Terry Jones.
A visitation for Bob will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 7:00PM to 8:00PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 205 E. Washington Street, DeWitt, MI 48820. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 12:00PM with a visitation one hour prior at Seventh-Day Adventist Church 5400 W St. Joe Highway Lansing, MI 48917. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
