Walter Lucy Jr., passed away on January 12, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan.

Walter Lucy Jr.'s departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply. At the precious age of 70, Walter would tell you he lived a full life. Experiencing life on life terms and riding the waves. He traveled aboard and visited most of the 50 states. He felt the freest in Los Angeles, California. He longed to return one day and travel on route 44 in his two door Cadillac.  

Walter was born on March 26, 1953, in Akron, Ohio. To his beloved parents Walter Sr and Mildred Lucy. He was ambitious, intellectual, strong-willed and stubborn at times. However, he had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, goal oriented and undeniably a bit charming and flirtatious.  He was clever and full of knowledge gained through all his life experiences. He graduated from South High in Akron and swiftly enlisted in the Navy stationed in Naples, Italy at the tender age of 18 serving as a Youman. Priding himself as a "Lucy" he learned a vast array of trades from a skilled painter, electrician, carpentry, mechanic to roofing and window repair. "I'm a Lucy, if I can't fix it then it cannot be done." Walter says.  

Walter's hobbies included watching and playing basketball. He was a force to reckon with on the court as he performed lay ups and free throws in his three-piece suit at times. He prided himself on his gorgeous looks and impeccable Afro. He insisted on maintaining self-care and presenting himself as if he had a million dollars in his pocket. Walter also enjoyed fishing and listening to old school spirituals like 'Rough side of the mountain' with his mother. In his later years, he adopted the Volunteers of America family and built a supportive brotherhood. He fellowshipped with other veterans and made lasting friendships. He became affectionally known as 'Red'.  

In December 2019 Walter married Juana de la Cruz, as a devoted husband he attempted to learn Spanish as he jotted down common phares and adjusted to their cultural differences. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 5 years; children, that he loved dearly; son, Sterling Lucy Sr and daughter, Tamani Lucy (Caska) Thompson, all of Columbus, Ohio; stepchildren, Miguel de la Cruz, Esther de la Cruz and Juan de la Cruz, of Dominican Republic. Per Walter he accepts additional children that recognize him, Nicole Haris, Laurence Lucy-Evans, Adriene Lucy; grandchildren, Meana Motley, Sterling Lucy Jr, Sidney Lucy, Jevon Williams, Katarah Williams, Andre Lucy, Kenya (Nai Nai) Lucy, Romel Henry, Caska Thompson III; bonus great grandson, MiiTone (Cabbage) Jackson, all of Columbus Ohio; brother, John (Joise) Lucy of Detroit, Michigan; best friend, McQuetta (Gayle) Williams; and a host of other amazing family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by parents, Walter Sr and Mildred Lucy; his compassionate sister, Barabra Hampton; four adventurous brothers, Melvin Lucy, Jerry Lucy, William (James) Lucy, and Dennis Lucy all of Akron, Ohio.  

God has called Walter home at the age of 70. God's grace and mercy will see us through. We must take this same journey one day. The most important question we all should have is will God greet "ME" with a well done my good and faithful servant?
