Anchorage resident Jone Novakovich, 67, died Sept. 14, 2005, at home after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer. A funeral was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Anchorage Alaska Chugach Stake Center, 2240 Baxter Road.
Mrs. Novakovich was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Provo, Utah, to David and Maude Spalding. She was married to Steven Novakovich in 1958. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. In 1967, the family moved to Anchorage. Mrs. Novakovich and her husband later started the family business, Novakovich and Sons, which the family operated until its sale. Later, she was a vital part of Emerald Pine Lodge, which she owned with her husband in Homer. She was also a noon-duty attendant at Scenic Park School in Anchorage for many years, where she was affectionately called "Froggie." Mrs. Novakovich was involved in school, PTA and many civic and church functions throughout her adult life. She continued this tradition with her grandchildren, often participating in school activities. Mrs. Novakovich was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many auxiliaries including primary, young women and Relief Society. She was also an active ordinance worker in the Anchorage Latter-day Saints temple, where she served for several years. Her family said: "Jone loved the beauty and bounty of Alaska and was an accomplished gardener and cook. Her life was filled with service to others, and even when struggling with cancer, she reached out and comforted those around her." Mrs. Novakovich was preceded in death by her brothers, Boyd, Robert, Gary and Jimmy.
Surviving her are sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Deanne and David and Teresa; grandchildren, Melinda, Ashley, Jeremy, Aaron, Aaron, Adam, Nicole, Amy, Noelle, Emily, Daniel, Stephen and Michael; great-granddaughter, Cora; sisters, Faye, Pat and Linda; brothers-in-law, Wayne and Bruce; ex-husband, Steve; and many other family members and friends.
