Husband of Sophia (McCune) & Rebecca (McAlister) Newhouse

Obit: John Newhouse was born Dec 14, 1806, in Pickaway County and died friday, Jan, 6 1893. Ages 86 years and 22 days. He Came to this County with his parents when a small boy. Married Mrs Sophia Martin, June, 19 1830, and lived with her for 18 years, and by this union there were 8 children born, when it pleased tyhe Lord to call her away, on September 29th, 1851. He was married to Rebecca McCalister who still survives him. To this union 2 children were born, 10 in all. Father Newhouse made a profesion of Religion in early life and joined the church and lived a consistent member untill his death. 3 years ago he was siezed with paralysas from which he never recoverd. Previous to his sicknes he gave evidence of his acceptance with God. Father Newhouse was Loved and respected by all who new him. It is evident that all was done that could be done to prolong his days, both by the doctor and his faithfull wife and friends. The remains were conveyed by undertaker Bigelow, of Richmond to the Brick Church at Maple Dell. The Funeral Sermon was preached by; Rev F Hagan Sunday at 11 O'clock fron job 14th chapter and part of the 20 Verse. "Thou changest his countenance and sendest him away." The house was crowded with a large and sympathyzing congregation of relatives and friends, ro pay the last ribute of respect to the desceased. The remains were interred in the Graveyard near the Church.
