He is survived by his wife, Helen Stavros of New Orleans, his brother Robert Clifford (Mary) of Santa Fe, NM, sisters Jaylene Worrell (Norman) of Dillon, Montana and Ann Marie Jenson (Chris) of Blackfoot, ID. He also had 3 step siblings, Brant Howell, Richelle Howell, and Denise Howell who mattered a great deal to him. He had sixteen nieces and nephews scattered around the west and northwest.

He graduated in 1969 from Brigham Young University and then received his Master's Degree in Social Work from Portland State University in 1971. He was a member of the Psychiatry Department at Ochsner Health from 1990 until his death. He was known for his therapy groups for children, adolescents, and adults.

He was active in numerous professional organizations and frequently gave talks on various topics related to therapy. He also loved teaching others about social work and supervised many graduate student social workers over the years. He taught for 30 years as an adjunct professor at the Tulane School of Social Work and in their online program over the past several years. He also taught for 2 years at the LSU School of Social Work and taught in the graduate counseling program at Our Lady of Holy Cross.

He loved travel particularly to Oregon and the Northwest.
