Verla Freeman Clifford Salverson

Verla Freeman Clifford Salverson, 80-year-old Blackfoot resident, died Wednesday May 31, 2006 at Bingham Extended care Center in Blackfoot.

She was born on September 17, 1925 at Escondido, Calif., a daughter of Milton John and Lydia Adams Freeman.

When she was two her family moved to Salt Lake City for a short time, then on to Ririe, and later to Osgood, where she attended early school. She graduated from Ammon High School.

She and Wayne Clifford were married in Salt Lake City, Utah, and were later divorced.

On June 17, 1967 she and Aldin M. Salverson were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. For many years she was active in church positions in the Shelley and Blackfoot Wards, including Ward Librarian, Primary President, Young Women's President, Relief Society Counselor, and Visiting Teachers, and was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She enjoyed sewing and quilting, having made all her children and most of the grandchildren new quilts. she also enjoyed crocheting and working on genealogy and family histories. Verla enjoyed writing, and produced many beautiful poems. She also wrote several scripts for books, however none was ever published.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Marie (Chris) Jensen and Julie (Richard) Daley, all of Blackfoot, and Jaylene (Norman) Worrell of Dillon, Mont.; three sons, Melvin (Karen) Salverson of Payette, Robert (Mary) Clifford of Santa Fe N.M., and Marvin (Helen) Clifford of New Orleans, La.; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her oldest brother, Eson Milton Freeman of Genola, Utah; two sisters, Lovella Lydia (Jim) Peterson of Boise, and Nada Rebecca Meikle of Blackfoot, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Aldin Maxwell Salverson in 2004; a daughter Karen Whiting; a sister Lola Gifford; and three brothers, Calvin, Merlin, and a baby boy who lived only 15 days.

Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at the Blackfoot LDS 11th Ward Chapel, 520 N. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, with Bishop Mike Inskeep officiating.

Burial will follow in the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot. A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Grove City Funeral Home, 288 N. Shilling Ave., and the church one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
