Vitaly Tarasoff March 18, 1919 - January 29, 2015
Vitaly passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the family home in Berkeley. He was born in Nikolayevsk-on-Amur, Russia, on March 18, 1919, to parents Apallon and Antonina, and was the eldest of three children. The family fled to Harbin, China to escape the Russian Revolution. While growing up there, he met and married Lidia and they had two children, Tatiana and Alex. Vitaly and his family lived in Harbin until the Communists came into power, which unfortunately, forced them to flee to Brazil. Ten years later, the family moved to Berkeley, California, where a third child, Helen, was born. Vitaly is preceded in death by his daughter Tatiana, Lidia and siblings. Vitaly had a distinguished career as an auto and diesel mechanic. Vitaly will be remembered for a sharp mind, a love of dogs, and knowing five languages. He is survived by his children Alex (Nancy) and Helen (Keith), grandchildren Paul (Tiffany), Matthew and Olivia and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and William. He will be missed by many. Funeral service will be held Thursday February 5th at 11AM in the Chapel of Sunset View Mortuary, in El Cerrito. Visitation will be at 9am.
