Geneva Johnson, 94, passed away April 14, 2013. Born in Clymer, PA to the late Wendell H. and Nellie Mae (Motter) Barbour, she graduated from Commodore High School (Commodore, PA) and lived most of her life in the Akron area. She was very active at Akron First Assembly of God where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the choir for many years. Mrs. Johnson was also a long time counselor with the Akron Pregnancy Services. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and passed that love unto her children. Even more important to her was passing on her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert G. Johnson; a stillborn son; brothers, Sheldon and Wayne Barbour; sisters, Florence and Ruth Barbour and Evelyn Siggelow.
She is survived by sons, Robert N. and David; daughters, Carol Murty, Patricia Boggs Hill, and Marilyn (Eugene) Jones; grandchildren, Kristine (Barry) Thornton, Lisa (David) Anderson, Brian Murty, Sharon Smith, Stephan (Laurie) Boggs, Michael (Heather) Johnson, Loire (Stephan) Fox, Julie (Ritchie) Cottrell, Jason (Megan) Johnson, Jodi Johnson, Jonathon (Liz) Johnson, Timothy (Kelly) Jones and Matthew (Sarah) Jones; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Curtis (Helen) Barbour.
The funeral service will be Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 12 noon, at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Kent Jarvis officiating. Interment Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, April 19, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Also ONE HALF HOUR prior to service from 11:30 to 12:00 a.m. on Saturday.
