Passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Nada for 61 wonderful years. Cherished father of Karen, and Wendy (George) Franz. Predeceased by his parents, Nikola and Maria and 13 siblings. He will be lovingly remembered by Kumovi Joe and Mary Bubas and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family and friends in Canada, Croatia, and the U.S.A. Matt was born in Vukova Gorica, Croatia. He came to Canada in 1958 and met his wife, Nada in Schumacher, Ontario. They married in 1962 and relocated to Hamilton then Niagara-on-the Lake where they raised their loving family. Matt owned and operated The Anchorage in Niagara-on-the Lake as well as the Colonel Butler Inn. He enjoyed travelling with Nada to many destinations. Matt will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the staff of 7 South and 5 North at Joseph Brant Hospital for their wonderful care shown to Matt and his family. Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Rosary at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East, Hamilton, on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
