As of this date, April 23, 2024 there are three homemade markers.
One a white wooden cross, bears the name of Mary C Frederick on the horizontal crossbar stenciled with black paint. On the vertical bar is a stenciled black dove but you see above the horizontal crossbar. Underneath the horizontal crossbar are the years, "1926" and "1976". Additionally, under the crossbar are the words, "Mark my son, Frederick."
Positioned in front of the cross is a white 3-inch deep 12 inch 12 inch 2 tall cinder block. This time using peel off adhesive letters both a name and two dates: "Mary W. Frederick" and the dates 1/26/1928 and 7/8/1976. These are beginning to peel off.
Finally, laying on the ground is another odd shaped painted white and black marker which contains all of Mark Frederick's information including his birth date of March 28th 1952 and a date of death of November 13th 2020. Additionally, there are the stenciled letters "A" and "W," which, by the way they are painted on the black background, lead me to believe he was both a sport fan of both Atlanta and Washington DC., teams.
Gravesite Details
The joint tombstone of Mark and his mother, Mary is broken. It is in Southside Cemetery, the newer Southside Cemetery in Hickory, NC in Catawba County adjacent to I-40 interstate in Hickory North Carolina. The upper part of the tombstone, which is broken in half, has two letters which indicate to me that Mark was most likely both an Atlanta Braves fan and a Washington sports. the letters A&W in the font that major league teams use is provided. along with the word sunrise 3/28/1952 and sunset November 13th 2020.
