Funeral held for Raymond Goehring Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 15, at Faith Lutheran Church, Pierre, for Raymond Goehring. Interment was at Medicine Hill Cemetery, Harrold, with military honors. Raymond Jacob Goehring was born Jan. 25, 1922, at Highmore, Hyde County, to Andrew and Emma (Heinz) Goehring and died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1993, at his home in Ft. Pierre at the age of 71 years and 17 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Ray attended country school in Hyde County and moved into Highmore where he was graduated from Highmore High School. Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the European Theater ,during WWII. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to South Dakota. Raymond was employed by McDonald's Meat Market in Highmore and later by the Harrold Locker Plant. Raymond married Loretta Mattheis Dec. 9, 1946, at Harrold. To this union eight children were born.

The family farmed in the Harrold area for 21 years. Ray and his family moved to Ft. Pierre in 1970, where he was employed by Neele Kruse Construction until his retirement.

Raymond is survived by: his wife, Loretta, Ft. Pierre; four daughters: Mrs. Newton (Janet) Semmler, Ree Heights; Mrs. Terry (Susan) Tople, Ft. Pierre; Mrs. Bernard (Judith) Brady, Ft. Pierre; and Mrs. Jeffrey (Ruth) Kiepke, Pierre; three sons: James and wife, Ruby, Oak Harbor, Wash.; John of Miller; and Mark of Ft. Pierre; two sisters: Agnes Stuart, Vilas, N. Car., and Mrs. Merle (Ruth) Westcott, Highmore; a brother, Bernard, North Highland, Calif.; two half-brothers: Arthur Rittel, Miller, and Daniel Rittel, Anoka, Minn.; a half-sister, Esther Dalton, Highmore; 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Royal; a half-brother, Bill Rittel; and a half-sister, Adeline Schuette.
