Robert Manners was born at Waterloo, Iowa, Nov. 8, 1854, and died at the home of his son, Guy W. Manners, at Alexandria, Nebr., Dec. 16, 1923, at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 8 days.
He was married to Alma June Califf, Dec. 9, 1878. To this union seven children were born: William, Nellie, Alma and Robert E. who have preceded their mother and father to the great beyond, Julia of Salt Lake City, Utah, Guy W. of Alexandria, Newell of Waterloo, Iowa, a brother John Manners of Hebron, a sister Emma Lieland of McCook, Nebr., and six grandchildren, all who are left to mourn his loss.
On Febr. 15, 1874, Robert Manners with his wife united with the Baptist Church of Alexandria, which was then holding their service in a school house known as Pleasant Hill about four miles southwest of Alexandria. Rev. Nobel, first pastor of the church baptised Mr. and Mrs. Manners in the Blue River. He was elected treasurer at a later meeting, being the second treasurer of this organization which then numbered fifteen members.
Funeral services were conducted b Rev. Bremicker and held at the home of his son, Guy Manners Wednesday afternoon and the body laid to rest in the Alexandria Cemetery.
