Former Secretary/Treasurer of the Office Employees International Union Local 42. Widow of Union activist Robert "Buddy" Battle III. They were married in 1956 and had one child. Their union lasted until his death in 1989. Previously married to Coleman A. Young, future mayor of Detroit, in 1948, and endured the alleged abuses of the U.S. Government during the House Un-American Activities hearings. Her marriage to Coleman Young ended, but they remained colleagues in the struggle for justice.
