Francis Johnson was born in 1751 in Abbeville County, South Carolina. He married Margaret Seawright aka Johnson (1756-1842). According to his pension application, Francis and Margaret only had 3 children: John Seawright Johnson (16 Dec 1779-3 Jun 1855); Isabel "Ibbie" Johnson-Black (1778 Abbeville County, South Carolina-1863 New London, Union, Arkansas) and Jennet Jane Johnson-Dobbins (1780 Abbeville County South Carolina-New Whiteland, Johnson, Indiana).

Francis Johnson served in the Continental Line in the Revolutionary War. During 1779-1780, he served as a Lieutenant under Capt Andrew Miller and Col Anderson. He was killed by Tories and died during the Revolutionary War at about 30 years old in 1783. He was a S.C. Militia officer.

He is buried at Greenville Presbyterian Church near Donalds, Abbeville County, SC, USA, but the location of the church and cemetery is in Greenwood County near the county line.

District Mrs. Margaret Seawright aged Sixty Six years a respectable & credible lady who being
duly sworn according to law on oath says that she is the daughter of William and Margaret Miller deceased who was formally Margaret Johnston widow of Francis Johnson who, as deponent ever learned from Said Mother, was killed in the Revolutionary War: her mother's children by her first marriage aforesaid were Isabella, John S. & Jennet Johnson, and by her last marriage, this Deponent, Rebecca Stephenson & Mary Rutherford, and that from recent information they were all alive except Jennet aforesaid who had married John Dobbins: That John S. Johnson and Mary Rutherford, widow, who live in Monroe County Alabama, Isabella Black, widow lives in Union County Arkansas, Rebecca Stephenson in Abbeville District in this State a widow, and this Deponent a widow in this (Anderson) District, which five are all of her said mother Margaret Johnson & subsequently Miller's living children: That her father William Miller died in this District in 1832 and her mother aforesaid remained a widow to the date of her death which was on the second day of August 1842.
