WATER CLAIMS SECOND VICTIM
Frank Firestone Plunges into Spy Run Creek at Lawton Park and Fails to Reappear
IN WATER 20 MINUTES
Swimming claimed its second victim in Ft Wayne this season at 7:30 o’clock Friday evening, when frank Firestone, 20 years old, plunged into Spy Run Creek near the bridge in Waltham Park and failed to reappear. The young man had lived for the past two years with Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Comincavish, 1610 Spy Run avenue, and was employed and the office of the Wayne Oil Tank and Pump company.
Friday evening, he went in the pool with a fellow roomer, Homer E. Applegate. Young Firestone rested on the edge of the pool for a time before sliding down a cement abutment into the water. When he failed to reappear on the surface, Applegate became alarmed and cried for help.
Ed Hedges, special officer at the pool, and his assistant, M. W. Spore, started diving at once and Firestone was in the water fully 20 minutes before Spore located him and brought him up. The police had arrived with the pulmoter, the application of it failed to resuscitate the youth.
Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Firestone, parents of the boy arrived from their home in Montgomery, Michigan, late Friday night. They returned home at noon today with the body. The funeral services will be held there.
Young firestone graduated from the International Business College here about a year ago and since that time had worked for the Wayne Oil Tank and Pump Company.
Coroner C. J. Rothschild, who investigated, believes the young man was not a very good swimmer and when he struck the cold water deep in the pool, easily succumbed.
