She was the daughter of Johann Jacob Rohrscheib and Maria Barbara Volz. Her mother died on November 26, 1847 in Germany. Johann then married Anna Elizabeth Kummer.
In 1854, Magdalena's parents, with their children, left Germany for America by way of New Orleans, landing at St. Louis. When running low on money, the children made baskets to sell to make money. Later relatives from Bretzville, DuBois County, Indiana, sent money for them to continue the trip to Bretzville.
Magdalena married John Bamberger on April 4, 1864 in Huntingburg, Indiana. They lived near Bretzville until 1890. Then the family moved to a farm between Homer and Sidney, Illinois. In 1909, They moved to 110 West Washington Street, Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois. John and Magdalena had 10 children: John P., Valentine, Elizabeth, Philip L., Emma W., Mary Barbara, Daniel, Katherine Elizabeth, Martha Julianna and Alvena.
Magdalena and her daughter Alvena lived at 406 East Stoughton Street, Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois, after her husband John and Daughter Emma had passed away.
Magdalena died September 20, 1923.
