Alpheus Varney was the 2nd son of Nathaniel & Betsey {Morrill} Varney. Born in Berwick, Maine and removed to Charlotte, Vermont about 1810 where he lived until 1874 when he died at the age of 75. He married Phila Palmer. They had four children. Electa P., George W., Michael, and William Henry Harrison Varney who later became a Physician in the town of Charlotte. They were members of the Quaker faith.
