Ms. Mary Ruth Packer, age 76, of Atmore, Ala., died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at her residence. She was a native of Wilcox County, Ala., and attended school in Wilcox. Ms. Packer was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora McCants Freeman and Nat Freeman; her husband, Erskine Packer; one daughter, Theresa Freeman; three sisters, Malvenia A. Chatman, Buford Stats and Ida Bonner and one brother, Henry Freeman.
Ms. Packer is survived by seven daughters, Gloria (Harold) Askew, Levada (Nathaniel) Williams, Lorie (Isaac) Rice, Nancy (Jerry) Thicklin and Quay (Mario) Field, all of Atmore, Carolyn Dale and Sharon Hazley, both of Detroit, Mich; four sons, Alexander Dale and James Dale, both of Detroit, Orlando (Sheryl) Dale and Erskine Packer, Jr., both of Atmore; one sister, Rosa Wallace of Atmore; twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Public viewing was held Friday, May 9, 2008, from 2 – 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with Rev. Benjamin Stallworth officiating and Rev. Willie Hawthorne Host Pastor. Interment followed at Stallworth Cemetary in Atmore with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
