Spanish general. He fought the French invasions of 1808 and 1823 and went into exile in Gibraltar after king Fernando VII abolished the Constitution. He was lured into a snare, captured and shot in Málaga together with 52 of his comrades-in-arms. After king Fernando's death his remains were buried in Plaza de la Merced, a square in the town centre, where a memorial was erected.
