"WELL KNOWN SPARTA WOMAN PASSES AWAY - Services in Memory of Mrs Alice Davis Largely Attended at M E Church on Monday - WESTERN SPARTA, Oct 5 - Alice Davis, who had been seriously ill for the past two weeks, passed away Friday evening at 8 o'clock. Although she had been in failing health the greater part of two years, her friends had entertained hope of her recovery. During the past summer she had been well enough to do a part of her own work, to attend church and to make frequent visits to her friends and relatives. She had also kept up her correspondence letters of community doings to The Herald. Her presence will be greatly missed in a wide circle of friends and relatives. Funeral services in her memory were held at the Spartansburg M E church at 2 pm Monday. Rev A W Gibson preached a brief sermon likening the life of a Christian individual to a journey and a return home at the end of life. Rev Gibson and Miss Walsh sang 'Home of the Soul' and a trio of ladies, Mrs James Platt, Mrs C L Rexford and Miss Walsh sang 'Rock of Ages.' Mrs O M Thompson officiated at the piano. A very large floral tribute showed the esteem of her family and friends. Those from a distance were Mr and Mrs William Ainsworth and son, ElDorus, Charles Ainsworth and family, Clarence, Connie and Ruth, Henry Cottrell, Ida Webb, Ida Gray, Mrs Anna Stowell, Vincent Ryan and Howard Harris, all of Union City; Mrs Nora Gray and daughters, Frances and Olive of Jamestown, NY; Ralph Baker and family of Cottage Hill; Mrs Dorothy McCurday and son, Herman, of Hydetown; Mrs Emma Proper and son, Orlo, of Rouseville; Mrs Letha Amy of Oil City; George Davis and family of Spring Creek; Mr and Mrs Nash Bailey, Mrs Florence Price, Miss Anna Johnson, Miss Freda Kingsley, all of Lottsville, Pa; Mr and Mrs Carl Davis of Corry. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery."
