Ignatius was the son of Thomas III and Sarah Jenkins Simpson. He was born on St. Thomas Plantation. He married Jane Green in 1750 and had 1 child: Joseph Bernard (b. 1752). He married again in 1775 to Ann Semmes and had 2 children: Mary Annn (b. 1778) and Dr. Robert (b. 1785). He was a sergeant in Captain Sinnett's Maryland militia during the American Revolution (DAR #334777). He ran a store in Port Tobacco. Ignatius died in 1793, and in his will, he left his house and money to his wife and family.
