Mr. Staley and his first wife, Rebecca Bowen who died in 1847, had 9 children - Hepsey and Williamson Nipper also had 9 children. Several of these children were still young in 1849 when Hepsey and Daniel married.
In 1854 one of Hepsey's son-in-laws retained the Lincoln and Herndon Law Firm and sued Hepsey to partition the nearly 200 acres of Nipper land among the heirs. The documents detail an eleven year fight between Hepsey and some of the heirs with her eventually purchasing the majority of the land from the remaining heirs. She persevered in the midst of many trials - a strong pioneer woman who is my 4th great-grandmother.
Hepsey's stone reads: Hepsey Staley - wife of Daniel Staley - died March 7, 1873 - aged 70 Ys, 23 Ds. Her stone is broken and lying near Williamson Nipper's stone. Daniel Staley is buried several miles away in the Staley Cemetery with his first wife.
