Mrs. Nancy Benge, one of the old Cherokee pioneers, died at her home near Fort Gibson, Sunday, June 14, 1917. Her remains were laid near her husband, the late Samuel Houston Benge, in the officers circle in the National cemetery, Rev. Hinkle officiating. Mrs. Benge was born near Cane Hill 72 years ago, and lived in the Cherokee nation all her life Her husband was an officer in the Union army. She leaves three children - Mrs. J. McLain, Mrs. Jennie Reece and Sam Bange of Fort Gibson.
