Came to the United States from a part of conquered Poland in 1914 which was then the Kingdom of Prussia. He left Prussia to escape their army. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1916 in order to fight the oppressors of his homeland. When the armistice was signed in 1918 he was honorably discharged from the service.
He married Mary Rostkowski in 1926 and had one daughter (Dorothy). He worked and retired as a stevedore on the docks of the Port of Baltimore.
He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on February 9, 1931. At the outbreak of WWII he again registered for the draft but was not called for service due to his age.
