GALESBURG - Mr. John L. 'Jack' Hoots, 72, 754 E. Fourth St., died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday (July 1, 2008) in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born May 21, 1936, in Galesburg, the son of Lewis and Doris Rutledge Hoots. He married Catherine E. Lewis Curtis on Dec. 17, 1981, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2001.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Agans of Galesburg; two sons, Brian (Sharon) Hoots of Butler, Mo., and Jim (Lori) Wells of Vista, Calif.; three stepsons, Jeff (Shelly) Curtis of East Peoria, Ronnie Stewart of Phoenix, and Roger (Hazel) Stewart of Galesburg; three daughters, Rena (Bob) Hutchison, Debbie (Lenny) Wallace and Crystal (Jerry) McCaw, all of Galesburg; one stepdaughter, Julie (Jim) Jones of Knoxville; one brother, Bud Hoots of Galesburg; a half brother, Henry Agans of Galesburg; two sisters, Sue Hook of Galesburg, and Peg (Brad) Wilke of Galesburg; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Hoots; and one granddaughter.
He worked for OMC Gale Products. He later worked for Carhartt for 10 years, retiring in January 2001. He also worked part-time for NAEIR as a security employee. He was of Methodist Faith.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, in East Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
