Mary "Evelyn" Oliver, 79, of Vandalia died at 11:20 a.m. Friday (July 4, 2008) in her home. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday (July 8, 2008) at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (July 7, 2008). Burial was in Pinhook Cemetery, Vandalia. Memorials: Fayette County Hospice or Overcup Baptist Church, Vandalia. Evelyn was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Vandalia on 8th Street, the daughter of Howard "Nick" Carter and Viola Baldwin Carter. She was a member of Overcup Baptist Church, Vandalia. She married Billie E. Oliver on June 30, 1946 at her parents home in Bluff City, IL. Surviving are her husband Billie "Bill"; daughters, Billye Janette and husband Robert "Bob" Marquardt; Bobbye Suzette and husband Michael "Mike" Eulberg; Connie and husband Grayland Bolyard, all of Vandalia; brother, Carl Edward Carter of St. Ann, Mo.; sister, Martha Evedean and husband Lloyd Bollinger of Millersville, Mo.; grandchildren, Shelley and husband Bryan Edwards; Kelley Smothers; Mary Hasper; Billie and husband LaNeil Worker ; Judson Clark; Will Bolyard ; great-grandchildren, Seth Edwards; Carley Edwards; Shelby Edwards; Taylor Killen; Brayden Smothers; Karingten Smothers; Jaedyn Worker; Kaelyb Worker; and Billye-Maegyn Worker. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers,(Melvin, Freddie, Dickie, Lonnie, Eugene, Cecil and Tommie) two sisters (Thelma and Joan) and one great grandchild (Nicholas Edwards). My mom was a very talented person. She could sing so beautifully. I know she will be remembered by her wonderful smile and all the love she gave to everyone she met. My dad always called her his angel. Mom is singing in the heavenly choir now.
