Beloved wife of Carl W. Black who passed away on
(April 17, 1929 - July 4, 2008)

The Community of Chelyan and the surrounding areas have lost a great man. Carl W. Black,79, of Chelyan, WV passed away at home on July 4, 2008. He went to be with his Heavenly Father and his wife of 57 years, Betty, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his mother, two brothers and a sister. Carl was a long time member and Trustee of the Chelyan Nazarene Church. He worked for various coal companies and retired from Union Carbide mining after 38 years. Carl is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Gail and Carl Green of Chelyan and Vicky and John Shank of Pinch; granddaughters and their husbands, Jennifer and George Epperley, Stephanie and Jeff Simms all of Chelyan; Rebecca and Chris Petitt of Charleston. Grandsons, Joshua and Jonathan Shank of Pinch; great-grandsons Jordan and Jacob Epperley of Chelyan. In his younger years he loved to go camping, hunting and fishing. His greatest love was his church and his family. His friends and family always spoke highly of him as an honest humble man. His physician, Dr. Jagannath said he could tell Carl has always been a hard working man and we thank him for all the care and kindness he has given our family. Funeral service will be 1:00PM Tuesday, July 8, at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank with Rev. Dan Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
