George was the son of German immigrants Christian Frederick Obenland and Christina Seivert. He was born on July 26, 1888 in Rankin, Illinois.

George married a widow, Malissa Manuel Brenton, the place and date unknown at this time. In about 1923, he married for the second time. His bride was Cleta Moffett. They had one son, George Ernest, born in 1927.

In about 1938, Cleta and their son George moved to Washington D.C with her sister Lois and Lois's husband Floyd.

At this time, we don't know whether they were divorced or just separated.

George died on November 13, 1954. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Danville, Illinois with his first wife, Malissa.
