David enlisted at Pittsburgh PA on Nov. 2, 1862 in Co. A, 18th Regt. of PA cavalry. He was discharged from service August 18, 1865, after being in hospital for chronic rheumatism in Clarysville General Hospital in Cumberland, MD as of July 25, 1865.
In his application for a pension in1872, he describes disabilities consisting of chronic diarrhea, heart disease and piles, contracted at Faifax VA in 1863.

David Reese died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Thompson, in the North Ward, Thursday, Feb. 12. He was aged 76 years and was an old soldier. The remains were interred in the cemetery on Saturday.
