Local Resident Killed In East Gary Accident


Arthur Stahl, 69, of 407 Weston, died of injuries suffered at 7:20 a.m. today in East Gary in a car-truck crash. Two other Valparaiso men enroute to work with Stahl were shaken up, but otherwise escaped injury, police said.
Stahl, who suffered head and chest injuries, was dead on arrival at Methodist hospital, Gary, police said.
Stahl was a maintenance worker for American Bridge company, Gary.
The decedent was born Oct. 30, 1884, in Marshalltown, Ia, the son of Henry and Frances Stahl. He married Myrtle I. Snyder in LeHarpe, Kan., Dec. 24, 1906.
He had lived here since last January at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Charles LaRue, 407 Weston, coming to Valparaiso from Gary.
Surviving in addition to his widow are four daughters, Mrs. Claire LaRue, 407 Weston, Mrs. Helen B. Nichols, Lawndale, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Hartmeister, Golden, Colo., and Mrs. Lucile Moore, Nashville, Tenn., a son, Charles F. H. Stahl, Griffith, and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Buffett, Oradell, N. J., and Mrs. Frank Tower of Oregon.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bartholomew Funeral home, 102 Monroe. The Rev. H. V. Deale, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday.
