Politician. He became Foreign Minister of Germany in 1922 until his assasination. Born the son of a prominent jewish businessman in Berlin, he studied physics, philosophy and chemistry in his hometown and in Strasbourg. Later he worked as an engineer joining the AEG and he became a leading industrialist in Germany. During WWI he held senior posts in the Materials Department of the War Ministry. After the war he was one of the founders of the "German Democratic Party". In 1921 he was appointed Minister of Reconstruction and on January 31, 1922 he became Foreign Minister of the Weimar Republic. Only two months after the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo to get Germany more freedom of action, he was assassinated in a plot led by two army officers linked to Organisation Consul.
