Inscription

His service record is often confused with another William Hibbard who led men in Connecticut in 1776. This William Hibbard and wife Bathsheba were at the Wyoming Settlement (in Pennsylvania) as early as 1774. They were there with brothers Ebenezer and Cyprian and mother, Hannah Downer and step-father, Caleb Spencer. William served in the militia, was in the Wyoming Massacre and escaped with his wife and new-born son, William. Bathsheba died soon after that event. William moved back to Connecticut, then back to Pennsylvania after that.
