Mr. Calvert was married to Mary J. Parks February 23rd, 1878 in the village parish church Durham Co, England. Dceased with his good bride soon after their marriage and turned their faces westward in the desire to find for themselves a freer place in which to realize their liberty and came to the U.S. at forty years age.
To this union were born seven children, five of whom are living. They are in order of age as follows: Harry H., Alex., Mrs. Alma Crippen, John, Junr.
Mrs. Robert Darnes, besides these there are nine grandchildren, who mourn the going of this old man.
The home of Mr. and Mrs Calvert has been in Des Moines for almost forty years, Mr. Calvert having been a miner most of the time, excepting for the more recent years which have been spent as an employee in the city Parks.
As a young man in England the deceased was a member of the fraternal order known at that time as the Manchester Unity, corresponding to the Independent Order of Odd Fellowship in this country. On his arrival here he affiliated with the last named order and has been a member of the Lodge No. 65 I.O.O.F. better known as the Sevastopol Lodge.
Mr. Calvert has been a good, hard-working man most of his life and we are glad to say that those remarkably clear hours of conciousness just prior to death there was a manly acceptance thru faith of God's love and we are led to feel that there came in that last hour of his life a full surrender of himself into the hands of a Loving Heavenly Father. May we rest our sorrowing hearts today in the happy assurance that our brother is at peace with God.
