My great, great, great grandmother was 43 years old when she, her husband and family set out from St.Joseph, Missouri for the Oregon Territory in 47 wagons, led by a nephew, Albert Franklin Davidson. They took the Southern Route, which brought them up to Polk County via Ashland, where a number of their party chose to remain, arriving in Polk County in Sep 1847. She would live in Polk County until her death in 1877, nearly 30 yrs. after her arrival. She was known as "Lucy". This photo was cherished by her granddaughter, Francis Ann "Fannie" Burkhart. Her mother, Melissa Ann, was a daughter of theirs; she married Leander Columbus Burkhart. Fannie's parents were my great, great grandparents. I cherish the photo album that has been passed down thru the generations.

"Melissa Ann" doll, brought to Oregon in 1847. I do not know whether she was originally Melissa Ann Page Davidson's doll, which she handed down to Melissa Ann Davidson Burkhart, then to Nellie Olivia Burkhart Hall, then to Pearl Laura Baker Taylor then to my mother, and then to my sister, Nancy and I. All that I really do know is that she is prized among the few other items we have inherited and treasure.
