Sarah Elizabeth "Betsy" Quire is the daughter of Jefferson Davis and Elizabeth Jane Brewer Strange. She was born 26 June 1887 in Franklin County, Kentucky, the second child in a family of six. Her father died six months before she married, at age 16, to Elza Quire.
Elza and Betsy were married 1 September 1903 in Fountain Square in a double wedding ceremony with Elza's sister Annie Bell and Beverly Louis Clark Raymond. She was the mother of six sons and three daughters. Elza died of cancer in 1929, leaving her a widow at age 41.
Betsy loved to dance, especially with her grandsons. In her later years, she lived with her daughter Flora Lee in Jeffersontown.
