Death of Grandma Buckman
Mrs. Juliana Buckman, one of the pioneer residents of the city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jane Hill, on Tuesday, Jan. 3rd, aged 92 years. Her maiden name was Castle and she was born in Georgia, Vermont, August 1st, 1800. Her father, Thaddeus Castle, being an eminent physician. She was married February 20th, 1819, and in 1828 removed to western New York. In 1855 she removed with her husband and family to this city, where she has since resided. She has been a member of the M. E. church since she was sixteen years of age. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are still living, as follows: Seth C. Buckman, of Freeport, Ill., aged 73 years; Solon F. Buckman, of Adel, Iowa, aged 69 years; Mrs. Julia Snider, of this city, aged 67 years; Guy J. Buckman, of Denver, Col., aged 65 years; Geo. A. Buckman, of Ogdensburgh, N. Y., aged 63 years; Mrs. Jane E. Hill, of this city, aged 61 years; Fred A. Buckman, of Adel, Iowa, aged 53 years; and Daniel T. Buckman, of this city, aged 45 years. Two sons died in the army, Philo C. Buckman, after whom the G. A. R. post of this city was named, was killed in the battle of Bull Run, and Harry C. Buckman, who was killed in the battle of the Wilderness. She leaves 22 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Mrs. Buckman enjoyed remarkable good health and retained all her faculties almost unimpaired until the last. About two weeks previous to her death she received a fall while walking across the floor, and the shock to her system, enfeebled by age, caused her death. The funeral was held on Thursday and was conducted by Rev. Samuel Lugg. Many friends paid a last tribute of repect to her memory.

BUCKMAN -- At the home of her grandson, F. G. Hill, in this city, on Tuesday, January 3, 1893, Mrs. Juliana Buckman, aged 92 years, 5 months. Funeral at the M. E. church, Thursday afternoon at two o'clock.
About ten days prior to her death Mrs. Buckman was suddenly stricken down while walking across the room, and fell heavily to the floor, owing, probably, to an attack of paralysis. From that time she steadily declined until the end came, the infirmities of old age augmenting the progress of her ailment. Surviving the deceased and residing in Stoughton, are two daughters, Mrs. Jane Hill and Mrs. Julia Snyder, and one son, Daniel Buckman. Five sons live outside the state, viz; G.J., at Denver, Col.; George at Ogdensburg, N.Y.; F. A. and S. T. at Adel, Iowa, and S.C. at Freeport, Ill. The husband of the deceased died about 25 years ago, and is buried in the Stoughton cemetery. She had resided in this city about 35 years.
