The author goes on to say, "I find, in studying the ancestry, that the majority of our ancestors were innocent, God fearing, people, doing their dead level best at living life. Such a man was Andrew Jackson Johnson, son of Lemuel Johnson and Mary Ann Norris. Lemuel was born near Spartanburg County, South Carolina in 1822, father was Lemuel Johnson, Sr. and believed to be the cousin of Starling Johnson, born 1819 in South Carolina. Lemuel and Starling Johnson's land was very close to each other and several other Johnson families in Pilgrim Rest, Hico, Fayette Co., AL."
Lemuel married Mary (Marie) Ann Norris, daughter of J. A. & Polly Ann Smith Norris 16 Jan 1840 in Fayette Co., AL. To them the following children were born; Nancy E, Moses Calhoun, Andrew Jackson, Sarah Lavina, Mary A, Roxey, Amanda Jane, John Clark, Missouri Alabama "Allie", Josephine, and Charles Johnson.

"Father & Mother were Christians, as the tree is known by its fruit. Yes, they both taught by example, as well by precept. My relations on my father's side of the house are almost innumerable to behold. I will give you an idea of the great multiplicity of my kinfolks. Now my father's grandmother had fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls. They were my father's uncles and aunts and they had very large families, each having from eleven to fifteen children. Now there were 6 boys and 8 girls in my father's family.
